SALT LAKE CITY — A decade after the judging scandal at the Utah Olympics, Canadian gold metalists Jamie Sale and David Pelletier remember the support of Americans they received.

“I’ve never actually felt that in my entire life where I felt like the whole crowd was behind us, or behind me, personally,” Sale said.

10 years ago today I walked into the Salt Lake City Ice Center and as the French announcer for figure skating. I didn’t know what to expect. This was to be the day when Canadian pair skaters Jamie Sale and David Pelletier would receive their Olympic gold medals; six days after first receiving silver.

It was 10 years ago Friday that Canadian pair skaters Jamie Sale and David Pelletier stepped on to the podium to receive their Olympic Gold medals.

In the back hallways of a rink in Peterborough, Ont., earlier this week in preparation for the Rock The Ice show, Sale and Pelletier shared some thoughts with me on their special time.

The Uniquely Me Fashion Show is set to be a night of inspiring stories and inspiring spring fashions.

The show, which will feature models born with Down syndrome as well as local celebrities, will take over the Winspear Centre lobby come March 3. Some of the more notable names that will be walking the runway includes Olympic and World Figure Skating Champion Jamie Sale.

Doors and reception are at 6:30 p.m. The show starts at 8:30 p.m.

Tickets can be purchased through the Edmonton Down Syndrome Society by phone at 780-944-4224 or online at edss.ca. Tickets are $175, which includes at $75 tax receipt.

Funds raised will go towards the EDSS to establish a centre of excellence aimed at providing support in all areas of life for Down syndrome individuals.

“We love to do shows,” said Pelletier, dispelling a recent rumour they were retiring. “It’s the same kind of skating as competition but mentally different. We want people to enjoy an evening with us and forget about the bills they have to pay. It’s more fun and we love to do it.”

Hughes is returning to Salt Lake City on Saturday night for a “Stars on Ice” show celebrating the 10-year anniversary of the Winter Games. Also appearing are Jamie Sale and David Pelletier, in their first trip back to the Olympic arena since they were caught up in the judging scandal that rocked the Salt Lake City Games.

“I assume it’s going to be excellent memories because I have only excellent memories of the Olympics,” Pelletier said. “Even though I’m not a nostalgic person, I’m very much looking forward to it.”

Damage control….AGAIN

I just wanna thank Erica Armstrong, our moderator, for clarifying things in todays article in the Globe and Mail!
It’s always so interesting AND scary at the same time when you sit and do an interview with a reporter and wait to see what kind of spin they’re gonna put on it…like Erica said they have their own intentions, need to make a good story more interesting or create drama.
I’m sorry that there have been so many mixed messages but c’est la vie!
WE ARE NOT RETIRING but the truth is we are coming to the end so that is why I believe the article was written that way, they know we’re having to accept that it is coming to an end eventually; we’re doing ok…it’s life and we will need to move on one day. ITS OK!
I am disappointed though that it was supposed to be mainly about our 10th ann of our gold medal and it left people thinking/focussed on us being done…not cool.
thanks for your tweets of concern, support and love…you guys are awesome! I’m honored that we can bring love into your lives through what we love to do and I will always keep that close to me! I’m very blessed! THANK YOU!
Ok, enough of this hear say stuff…when we are retiring we will announce it OK!!!!!!!
