Olympic figure skater Jamie Sale hangs up her skates in exchange for stilettos. Kingsway Garden Mall and the Edmonton Public School Foundation team up to raise money for full-day kindergarten through a fashion show called “Ready To Shine”. All the designs were created by high school students. Jamie Sale is one of the models. The CBC’s Cassandra Leader takes us behind the scenes.

Le Club de patinage artistique de Lévis accueillera de nouveau cette année pour sa revue annuelle de grands noms du patinage artistique alors que Jamie Salé et David Pelletier, médaillés d’or aux Jeux olympiques d’hiver 2002, performeront le 21 et 22 avril prochains durant l’événement.

«Après avoir reçu le couple Dubreuil-Lauzon en 2007 et Kurt Browning en 2009, le couple Salé-Pelletier sera à l’honneur lors de cette 35e édition qui promet d’être haute en couleur et qui, je le souhaite, restera gravée dans les mémoires», a souligné d’emblée Denis Carrier, le président du Club de patinage artistique de Lévis.

Students create fashion to raise funds for Edmonton Public Schools Foundation – Edmonton Examiner – Alberta, CA

The Edmonton Public Schools Foundation and Kingsway Mall are teaming up to make sure the future is bright.

As part of the Ready to Shine project, cutouts of clothing designs created by local high school students will be on sale at the mall through April 15.

All proceeds go towards full-day Kindergarten, part of the foundation’s commitment to investing in early education.

The goal is to raise $25,000 through cutout sales, corporate sponsorship of the clothesline, and $100 tickets to the fashion show and gala evening, which features a VIP reception and meet-and-greet with former Olympic figure skating champions David Pelletier and Jamie Sale.

Models with Down syndrome will strut their stuff on the catwalk at Saturday night’s Uniquely Me Fashion Show Gala in the Winspear Centre.

Numerous local celebrities will also walk the runway, including Oilers alumni Sean Brown and Al Hamilton, Olympic goldmedal figure skater Jamie Sale, retired Edmonton Eskimo Gizmo Williams and CTV personalities Erin Isfeld and Craig Larkins.

TORONTO, Feb. 28, 2012 /CNW/ – Live performances by three of Canada’s worldwide chart-topping musical acts plus a special tribute by champion figure skaters to the Best Original Song nominees have been announced for the 32^nd ANNUAL GENIE AWARDS on CBC-TV on March 8, 2012 at 8 p.m. (8:30 NT).

Acclaimed multi- platinum singer/songwriter Johnny Reid, Saskatchewan rockers The Sheepdogs, and global phenomenon K’NAAN will augment the broadcast with live musical performances at the Genies, honouring the best achievements in Canadian film. Plus, a special tribute to this year’s Best Original Song nominees will be presented by figure skating stars Joannie Rochette, Jamie Salé and David Pelletier.
